Why Join Friends of Paraguay?

Since 1967 Peace Corps has had a wonderful and meaningful program in Paraguay. The Peace Corps staff, communities across the country and Paraguayans from all walks of life have opened their homes and hearts to Peace Corps Volunteers. Close to 6,000 Volunteers have served in small, medium, and large villages and cities. Very few people, if any, who have served in Paraguay leave not feeling an indelible mark has been left on their heart and spirit.

Friends of Paraguay started in 1987 at the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Peace Corps/Paraguay’s beginnings. It has served as a vehicle for returned Peace Corps Volunteers to reconnect, for energy and resources to be gathered to reinvest in projects of many kinds, to provide that bridge from the times one was a PCV to current events of the day.

Why join? To reconnect with people you served with; to meet new friends who served in your site decades before or after you did, to assist those most recently returning home settle in personally and professionally as many helped you to do; to grow in your awareness of what is going in Paraguay and what is impacting the people and communities we all know; and quite honestly it provides us the opportunity to pay back…for what most likely was one of the most unique experiences you have ever had…good, not so good…but no doubt unique.

So join, get involved in events and donate your time and resources. It will make a difference.
